Photography and Symmetry

Symmetry, generally gives an imprecise sense of harmonious or aesthetically pleasing proportionality and balance.

Symmetry in photography, is a widely used technique. You can make attractive images. You can go for a perfect symmetry or add an element/detail that breaks it.

In the first photo, the Louvre Museum was taken from inside the Pyramide.

The last photo with the Tour Eiffel was taken from the “Peace Monumet” that was standig across the Champ the Mars.

Pictures taken by Al Ojeda on a visit to Paris, what a wonderful city! A photographer’s paradise… Great food too…

Photoshop Back in the Day

Al Ojeda, my hubby, has been doing photography professionally for many years, way before we came to US. Once he had this catalog photo-shoot for a boutique… I took one of the pics, scanned it (there were no digital cameras at that time), and started playing with it… Here is the result…

Back in the day, sometime in 1998, Adobe Photoshop was very basic without the wonderful tools/features it has today, but I did managed to do something pretty creative… Just sharing my love to arts…

Have fun doing what you like!

Portrait Photoshot

Presenting a portrait photoshot done a few weeks ago. The idea was to capture the subject “in the field” getting the essence of her personality more at ease, opposed to studio photos that are more intimidating. This type of portrait is also called “environmental portrait”, a person surrounded with elements of his/her life.

North Branch Park Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Exhibit

We’ve seen on numerous trips to Washington, DC the names of the 58,253 fallen Vietnam War soldiers carved in the Memorial Wall…

Nine Eleven

We came to America on September 1999. Or friend’s picked up us from JFK… We went to live with them in Bernardsville, New Jersey… They lived in an apartment in front of an old train station… So next day, we asked if that train would take us to Manhattan. Our friends were afraid of us getting lost, but we took the train, anxious on getting to know  the most “cosmopolitan” city in the world only 45 minutes away… Once in Hoboken, we took the ferry heading right to the Twin Towers… It was a gorgeous day… And as we got closer to the TT we were amazed by it’s size… Believe us when we say, everybody abroad knew about the Twin Towers, that gave a special meaning to the city. These photos were taken that special day for us…Two years later, on 9/11, we went to work, where we were told about a plane hitting one of the Twin Towers… It was something unthinkable to happen in anyone’s mind, but it did… A huge feeling of hopeless and sadness invaded us… A day we will never forget…

Mini Essay: Ballerinas

Have you ever heard of “The Dying Swan” where ballerinas perform Odette’s sad love story with Tchaikovsky’s music? Or the Oscar winning movie “Black Swan”? Well ballet has it’s roots in the Italian Renaissance, developed later in Russia, Britain and France as a concert dance form. It has become a highly technical form of dance usually accompanied by classical music. Choreographed for trained artists, it includes forms of mime and acting. Very hard to master, it requires long hours of practicing that often result in painful feet injuries…  It’s mostly known as for the Late Romantic Ballet which focuses on “pointe” work along with acrobatic movements… The white French “tutu” and “pointe shoes” are like trademarks to it… Modern Dance has it’s roots from classic ballet…

Al Ojeda was intrigued by the super training ballerinas go through… He felt this theme, would make for a wonderful photo essay… When you love photography, you love other forms of art…
