Hoboken Photos

Hoboken is part of the New Jersey Gold Coast… In the past a blue collar town, it has become a hip place to live in… It keeps a lot of the early 1900s architecture… Manhattan has a magnificent view from it…

Al and Ida were at Hoboken with their cameras capturing their vision of this town, they gave the pics a “silver toning” which works nicely on the photographs.

Photography and Symmetry

Symmetry, generally gives an imprecise sense of harmonious or aesthetically pleasing proportionality and balance.

"Al Ojeda Photography - Louvre Museum Photo - Paris photos"

Symmetry in photography, is a widely used technique. You can make attractive images. You can go for a perfect symmetry or add an element/detail that breaks it.

"Al Ojeda Photography - Tour Eiffel Photo - Paris photos"

In the first photo, the Louvre Museum was taken from inside the Pyramide.

The last photo with the Tour Eiffel was taken from the “Peace Monumet” that was standig across the Champ the Mars.

Pictures taken by Al Ojeda on a visit to Paris, what a wonderful city! A photographer’s paradise… Great food too…

My First Wedding with a Fujifilm X100

I decided to experiment on a recent wedding on how a Fujifilm X100 camera would work as a 3rd camera option. Very happy with the results, here are some of my thoughts and photos.

fujifilmX100

"Al Ojeda Photography - New Jersey Wedding Photographers - David's Country Inn wedding photos"The Fujifilm X100 is a great camera, it’s not a point and shot camera, it requires a well trained/skilled/professional to get the best out of its features.

"Al Ojeda Photography - New Jersey Wedding Photographers - David's Country Inn wedding photos"

Pros and Cons:

  • Slow Focus: watch out, be patient, don’t expect the shot to come out as quick as in a professional DSRL camera.
  • Fix Lens: It weights less, you see what you get, go straight to composing mode and take advantage of an excellent sharp lens.
  • Manual or Auto: In Manual, you can have complete control, in Auto you can use either aperture or shutter priority or go completely Auto letting the camera select the proper aperture or shutter settings for a correct exposure.
  • ISO: Almost noiseless at high ISO.
"Al Ojeda Photography - New Jersey Wedding Photographers - David's Country Inn wedding photos"

You need to know about film, mastering aperture, shutter speed and ISO, how to combine the 3 of them in order to get the “Photo”.

"Al Ojeda Photography - New Jersey Wedding Photographers - David's Country Inn wedding photos"

The camera reminds me a little bit of a large 4×5 format camera with the versatility of a 35mm and the enjoyment of having all those features in a digital technology.

"Al Ojeda Photography - New Jersey Wedding Photographers - David's Country Inn wedding photos"

Remember: cameras don’t take pictures, lenses don’t take pictures either, people do.

Photographer’s Vests

Being a Wedding Photographer requires being on top of the game not wasting any time carrying bags while we run after our Brides and Grooms…

A vest is the best solution to have everything handy… So with Al we studied the different pockets we really needed. Using my designing skills, we came out with a more fashionable/stylish photographer vest in which we can have our batteries, memory cards, lenses, photo checklists, keys, etc, with us.

This was a long overdue New Year’s Resolution which I finally had done.

The A B C of Wedding Photography

A – Photojournalism, pics must tell the story of the day, subjects are taken with elements surrounding them that tell you a certain message, no non-sense photos. Moments and reactions!

"Al Ojeda Photography - New Jersey Wedding Photographers - Bridgewater Manor Wedding Photos"

B – Portraits, either traditional or more candid style, couple’s, family and wedding party photos. Your photographer must know how to pose subjects making them look natural…

"Al Ojeda Photography - New Jersey Wedding Photographers - Clarks Landing wedding photos"

C – The wedding theme and/or details captured , in photography language, they would be “products” nicely arranged and creatively illuminated…

Tips for Brides & Grooms: When going through a prospective wedding photographer’s portfolio, make sure you see all A B C range, if not there, you better look somewhere else…

The Rule of Thirds in Photography

How it works: The rule of thirds should be applied by aligning a subject within imaginary guidelines and their intersection points (dividing the image in 9 equal parts), the horizon should be placed either on the top or bottom imaginary line, you can also allow linear features in the image to flow from section to section.

"Al Ojeda Photography - The Rule of Thirds"

The Bride is placed in one of the intersections, a well balanced photo.

"Al Ojeda Photography - The Rule of Thirds"

The larger sunflower is placed in another strong point.

Photography has a language and rules as in any other artistic expression… You can break them, but make sure when doing so, it makes sense… Have fun taking pics !!!

Jumping Wedding Photos idea comes from a Master Photographer: Philippe Halsman

Philippe Halsman (1906-1979) is a huge reference in the photography world, being one of the “Masters”. Imagine how far his heritage has gone, his jumping concept many years later, is widely used in wedding or engagement photographs !!!

"Left photo: Philippe Halsman - Right phto: Al Ojeda Photography"

On the left, Halsman’s goddess BB picture and on the right, one of our 21st Century jumping engagement photos.

Halsman’s theory about the jumping: “When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears.” Halsman developed a philosophy of jump photography, which he called jumpology. He published Philippe Halsman’s Jump Book in 1959, which contained a tongue-in-cheek discussion of jumpology and 178 photographs of celebrity jumpers.

Brides & Grooms to be: Maybe jumping is fun but not “your style”, no worries, with Al Ojeda Photography, we will “read” what defines who YOU are and shot accordingly!
